Oral hygiene shocker is causing a bad taste in the mouths of dentists across the UK

A new survey has shown that a large percentage of people over 25 only brush their teeth once a week, but many are willing to share their toothbrush and have never used a mouthwash

Hive Business brings brought together the UK’s most ambitious dental companies with the most qualified industry professionals and they have conducted a groundbreaking survey of the state of dental hygiene in the UK as part of National Smile Month. The results have left dental experts horrified.

Dental hygiene is incredibly important, not only to ensure we can show off our brilliant whites, but because poor oral health has a direct negative impact on overall health and has even been linked to serious health problems like heart attacks and dementia.

With that in mind, it’s safe to say that meeting the basic requirements needed to keep your teeth and gums healthy, like brushing your teeth every day, is something we expect everyone to keep up with. However, the results of a new poll show that getting tooth decay from eating too many sweets may be the least concern of the UK as a nation…

Hygiene shocker: 39% of 25-34 year olds brush their teeth less than once a week!

That’s according to Hive’s latest dental hygiene survey 39% of 25-34 year olds brush their teeth less than once a week.

This disturbing discovery has also been corroborated by many other recent studies, which suggest that dental hygiene often takes a back seat for people with underlying health problems. Furthermore, Over 30% of people admit to forgetting to brush their teeth. It’s quite common for people to prioritize other health issues over their dental health.

Mouthwash horror: 36% of 35-44 year olds say they have NEVER used mouthwash!

Studies show that 36% of 35-44 year olds notice their breath when meeting others for the first time

time. And that can be problematic, as over a third of 35-44 year olds have never used a mouthwash.

Mouthwash is an important part of any oral care routine and can help reduce tooth decay and strengthen tooth enamel.

Is Sharing caring when it comes to oral hygiene? 28% of respondents say they have shared their toothbrush at least once.

Hive’s survey of dental hygiene habits uncovered some unusual habits, such as: 28% of respondents said they share toothbrushes on a daily basis.

Health professionals have warned that this practice can lead to the spread of gum disease.

Hayley Robins, Head of Accounting at beehivesaid of the results:

“There are some shocking statistics in the responses to this survey. With 39% of 25-35 year olds brushing their teeth less than once a week, it’s no wonder there is such high demand for dental services in the UK.

The research described in this blog is extremely insightful and should definitely be made widely known to the population if dental hygiene and general health are to be improved.”

All is not lost: 63% of squeaky clean millennials brush their teeth more than three times a day!

Millennials are considered the “brightest” generation, and now they can add their “squeaky clean” accolades. This was shown by our dental hygiene survey 63% of Millennials brush their teeth more than three times a day.

This is a significant victory against bacteria, plaque and other diseases. People who brush their teeth at least three times a day have a 12% reduced risk of heart failure and 10% reduced risk of atrial fibrillation.

You need to go to the dentist more often. 33% of UK respondents say they are not registered with a dental hygienist.

Does the high cost of living stop people from prioritizing their dental hygiene?

Hive’s survey found that a third of the population is not even registered with a dental hygienist.

Hygienist treatments can cost anywhere from £20 to £300 and sometimes more depending on the length and complexity of the cosmetic procedures. This can be a discouraging factor for locals as the

Exorbitant costs give people less reason to smile.

However, given the importance of oral hygiene and its connection to overall well-being, visiting an oral hygienist must be a priority.
